Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) confirmed the country's first commercial-farm Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza outbreak on May 16, 2025 in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul. Saudi Arabia (SFDA) restricted imports from the entire RGS state; UAE (MOCCAE) limited its ban to the Montenegro municipality.

Whole chicken (POULTRY-BR-3 class) distributors with 1 of 3 suppliers inside RGS lost the Saudi import route within 24 hours of the SFDA notification.
